Supernova 2 (9) – Trojans 2 (30)

After Sunday’s extra training session, SN2 went into the game with some confidence having worked hard on a range of moves that we were to use during the match. For the first time we had the chance to train as divisions and then use what we learnt in practice. Trojans 2, currently top of the league turned up with a predictably strong team (just 5 England/Ex-England players) so we were up against it, the message however was to set ourselves up for future matches with a strong display and to use our structure to show we can mix it with the best in the league.

The game began strongly with the division of Julia, Nicola, Rich and I attacking and using our first few attacks to set up Rich for a mid-range shot which he dispatched. Trojans hit their stride too and the goals started to flow at both ends. In the other division Eiti, Tom, Jo set up Neil through a set move for a running in from one of their first attacks leaving us 2-1 up. Trojans shooting was something to watch and hard to defend at times but SN2 continued to keep the score respectable, goals from Julia, Tom, Jo and myself left the half-time score something like 12-6.

The second half saw Abby sub on for Jo as we continued to get a structure set-up quickly with both divisions allowing attacks to flow. However a period of seven unanswered goals did leave us with a mountain to climb and ultimately meant a final score of 30-9 against. Having said that there was much to be proud of, Tom and Neil combined very well together and Tom especially ran his England opponent at regular intervals, while Neil’s player scored no goals due to his impressive defending. Abby came on and scored a cracker of a long ranger.  Up my end a real team effort meant we kept our shape and leaves us plenty to build on for future matches.

Neil (3), Tom (1), Eiti, Jo (1) (sub, Abby (1)), Rich, Rob (2), Julia (1) Nicola
