Match Report: Supernova 3 (14) - Pelham 1 (6), 06/02/2011

The bright lights of Supernova Sunday were obviously too tantalising for any Supernovan to refuse this week, availability was at an all time high, and thus it was an exceedingly strong Supernova 3 team that walked on to the court to take on Pelham. Adam Maynard made his debut Supernova appearance, starting in attack he was joined by Steve Brooker, fellow debut-er Cat Blackman and Julia Gadsden. Adam got the ball rolling, promptly showing his worth, being awarded a penalty which was converted by Steve and then scoring a short range shot to bring Supernova to 2-0.

A change of sides and Andy Cosstick, James Da Silva, Sandra Goosens and Katie Evans attacked with gusto, a mid-distance shot was popped in by Andy and this was followed by a foul against his running in shot, which saw a textbook 'Cosstick' - Andy giving it his all and somehow finding the floor. The penalty was converted by James Da Silva, making a welcome return to the court after being injured in his first game of the season.  A goal from Pelham was rebuked by a 'Brooker-special' from down town and another change of sides saw Katie run her player and score her first ever Supernova goal. The spectators were now reaching their peak number, there were cheers and jeers, lots of haribo and some coffee cake (very delicious coffee cake). Then a second long shot from Pelham saw Cat, Katie, Adam and Steve back in attack, Cat was making space and putting up shots but just couldn't get the much sought after goal. In the end it was Adam and Steve scoring a long shot-a-piece, to roars from the spectators, that brought Supernova 3 into half time 8-3 ahead.

The second half saw much of the same, Supernova never looked in any danger even though the half started with 2 goals for Pelham. This was quickly dragged bag by a penalty from James and goals from Andy and Steve. Not to be outdone by the boys, Julia who had been collecting marvelously all game scored a nifty little run/drop off shot, her first competitive korfball goal. This was followed by a text book drop off from Sandra.

With 10 minutes left to play it was decided that James had done quite enough scoring in this game, he needed to save some for the next, on came Paul Leck but sans tartan trousers - breaking more than a few hearts. In the closing minutes a free pass was called and Andy stepped up to the plate, a slightly unusual position of his defender next to the person he was preparing to pass to caused a few shouts of 'the other side Andy!', but Cosstick looked unphased, niftily performing 'a Chul' (a sort of fake free pass first used by it's namesake in the fourth team last season) and scoring the goal. The game reached frantic levels towards the end, with both Pelham and Supernova attacks determined to claim the last goal, Sian who came on to replace Katie informed everyone that she would be collecting and that they were to shoot, there were a few attempts, but no more goals were to be had - perhaps they were just being greedy... The game ended 14-6 to Supernova.

A great game from a strong team that consistently outplayed the opposition, with a spread of goal scoring, most notably with first of what will hopefully be many goals for Julia and Katie.
