Match Report: Bromley 1 (8) - Supernova 4 (8), 20/11/2011

The 4th went to new LKA club Bromley for the first time looking for a good result. Although we have never played them before we did know a fair bit about them as Jenny went to ref them a couple of weeks ago. Bromley is a team that we predict will end up in the top 3 this season and so we knew it will be a tough game. The 4th team were missing a lot of regular players this week but we had Seb and Mary playing in the 4th for the first time this season. Seb had the job of defending against their best player who scored 11 goals in his last 2 games. We were missing a ref for the game though so Bromley reffed the first half and Supernova reffed the second half.

The game started with Alison running onto the pitch to play as she couldn't find the sports hall. Woody would now like to apologise to Alison for the fact that he had given her completely wrong information as to the location of the pitch! Sorry Ali, my fault! But that clearly was a good tactical move though as Alison went on to score the first of three goals in the game. In last week's game, the 4th only scored 1 goal the entire game and so it was a bit surprising that Supernova took a 3-0 lead in the first 10 minutes! After Alison's goal, Stu scored a running in shot for his first goal for Supernova. Captain Jenny then led by example and scored a free pass - something we don't do very often! Bromley scored a couple in reply but Alison scored another to bring the game to 4-2 at half time.

In the second half, we had a slight lull in the first 10 minutes and Bromley also stepped up their game. Bromley scored 4 goals in a row to take a 6-4 lead. The coach couldn't say anything at that point as he was reffing at the time. But the 4th didn't need him anyway. Phil had decided that he was going to start the comeback by scoring 2 goals to bring the score back to 6 all. We went 7-6 down and 8-7 down but with Alison scoring a long one and Jenny scoring her second free pass (not sure the 4th had ever scored 2 free passes in a game!), the game ended 8 all. Both teams probably had good chances to score a goal to win it at the end but a draw was probably a fair result.

Lots of positives in this game. Seb kept their most dangerous player to 1 goal (and that was a penalty). Ian and Phil worked very well together and to be honest could have scored a lot more. Jenny did well with her 2 free passes and keeping the division together. Alison top scored with 3 goals. Pippa and Mary did their usual great defending jobs and were pretty comfortable all game. The star of the show for me was probably Stu, who not only scored his first goal for the club, but did a whole bunch of interceptions and also giving Seb a helping hand in defending their star player.

So first point for SN4. Good job!

The team and score:
Jenny (c, 2), Mary, Ian R, Phil (2)
Alison (3), Pippa, Stu (1), Seb
