Last weekend the firsts won by a comprehensive 22-8, but it was harder work this time. Although we were creating loads of chances, our shots weren’t dropping and Bec 3 put in a far more determined performance, with a number of players who hadn’t looked dangerous at all the weekend before suddenly waking up and surprising us. It was always close – although the firsts were ahead for most of the game, the lead was never more than 3.
Mid second-half, a 4-goal run from Bec left us 1 goal down with 15 minutes to play and seriously rattled. A time out paid off as Supernova scored the next 2 goals, only for Bec to draw level again 5 minutes from the end. At this point Robin was thrown into the mix: after chasing Martin around for the best part of an hour, having to face a completely fresh Robin for the last 5 minutes has to be a bad day for any defender. Robin proceeded to take full advantage and popped in two long shots. There wasn’t time for Bec to reply, so although it might not have been the glorious performance of the previous week, the important thing is that the firsts have another 2 points in the bag.
