Supernova 4 prevailed over a tricky Mitcham 3 side, allowing them to return to the top of the league.  However it was far from easy going.

We set out with Francesca, Matt, John and Nicki, making her Supernova debut, in first attack, and Sarah, Beth, Francis and Joe in first defence.  It was a slow start, with both sides having a lot of shots, but with very few goals coming.

Mitcham struck first, and second, as it happens, and took a narrow 2-0 lead, before Sarah opened her Supernova account with a well taken mid-range shot, and that was the goals for the first half.  Our defence proved tight, so Mitcham were unable to score, and, at the other end, despite creating a lot of chances, we weren’t able to add to Sarah’s goal to get the necessary change around.

Coach Stein gave us some wise words of wisdom and we rang some changes at half time, with David ‘Iceman’ Slater coming on for Francis, and Cat ‘Evo’ Evans coming on for Beth, who was forced off as an injury, suffered in training, flared up.

Cometh the hour, and the Iceman cometh, and David made an early impression on the game.  Supernova had been awarded a freepass, David stepped up to take it, but noticed that Joe’s marker had left him free under the post.  A quick pass to Joe, who popped home a goal from close range and the sides finally changed ends.  The flood gates opened soon after that, and we saw a quick flurry of goals at either end.

Mitcham scored soon after, to take it to 3-2, but it was the last time they were to be in front, as Supernova tied, then took a 2 goal lead and whilst Mitcham occasionally came back to within one goal, Supernova always managed to strike back to keep up their lead.  Joe struck 3 more times, all from close range, John managed to get a brace, Matt also scored 2 and David completed the scoring with a long range effort, and when the final whistle went it was 10-8 to Supernova.

This really was a tale of two halves, with just the 3 goals in the first half, then 13 in the second.  However it was a thoroughly enjoyable game, and capped out a run of 4 games in as many weeks, for Supernova 4, that sees us sitting top of the league, before we take a break for a few weeks.
