Supernova’s second team staged a superb second half comeback to bag a point against Bromley 1 at Millwall.

Trailing 7-2 at half time, the hosts dominated large parts of the second half as they went in search of back-to-back wins.

Despite going three goals down early on, Supernova looked to have hauled themselves back into the game with goals from Eiti and your correspondent.

However, four goals in quick succession for the visitors and a missed penalty capped off a miserable first half for Supernova.

It was a different story in the second half, though, as the second team turned up the heat.

Shots from Joanna, Pippa and substitute Tim quickly saw the deficit reduced and, despite a Bromley penalty, goals from captain Jenny and another for Pippa saw the score move to 8-7 heading in to the last 5.

The pressure was starting to tell (a post on the Bromley Korfball Club Facebook page accurately described the second period of the game as one in which Supernova “seized the initiative”) and with the younger opponents rattled, Supernova continued their comeback despite a successful Bromley free pass.

A second goal from your correspondent and another for Jenny saw the scores levelled at 9-9 before Anke’s full time whistle signalled time was up just too soon for Supernova to secure the win their second half performance arguably deserved.

In all, Supernova’s girls scored more than half of the team’s goals compared to Bromley’s solitary female scorer.

The result moves Supernova 2 up to fourth in London League 2 while Bromley rise to eight following their third draw of the season.

If only there was a phrase to sum up this match, a well-worn wise word or two encapsulating a contest which has been played with contrasting fortunes for the two sides taking part either side of half time.

In the absence of an obvious one, we’ll settle for: “It was a game of two unrecognisable fragments.”
